Oil & gold trade on a world market & as such have established values at any given time. This is not the case with chickens or much of anything else.
The value of a chicken is arrived at by agreement between buyer & seller. A chicken that sells for $1 is worth $1. Achicken that sells for $500 is worth $500. As far as I know there's no recognized appraisal system for determinating the value of a chicken.
