Avian Flu hits McMurray Hatchery

Scorched earth yes, but the intent is to protect the large commercial businesses that produce millions of birds each year. I don't necessarily agree with the methods, but the only alternative would be to vaccinate a few billion birds.

Ok I have a little too much time on my hands. Based on the availability on their website it appears these are the breeds affected;

Brahma (Buff, Dark, Light), Buttercup, Campine (Golden), Cornish (Dark, White Laced Red), Crevecoeur, Cochin (Black, Blue, Buff, Partridge, Silver Laced, White), Dominique, Dorking, Egyptian Fayoumi, Faverolles, Hamburg (Golden Penciled), Houdan, Jersey Giant (White), Lakenvelder, Langshan (Black, White), Leghorn (Red), Marans (Black Copper, White), Minorca (Buff), Modern BB Red Game, Orpington (White), Phoenix (Silver), Plymouth Rock (Buff, Silver Penciled), Polish (Buff, Golden, Silver, White Crested Black), Sultan, Sumatra, Sussex, White Faced Black Spanish, Wyandotte (Blue Laced Red, Golden), Yokohama

Agreed that is the intention. But McMurray and the rest demonstrates the failure of the method.

My order hasn’t been cancelled. I allowed for substitutions but I’m not seeing what they will substitute with. So instead of 1 mystery chick I will have 5. McMurray did say that they are withholding enough chicks to rebuild their flocks, but that they will be able to fulfill some of the orders.

The 4 on my order that are flagged as unavailable are in Turveren’s list (buttercup, dominique, Egyptian fayoumi, and golden campine). McMurray has confirmed crevecoeur.
