Avian Predators - Or How to prevent the Hawk/Owl attack

Had a juvenile Cooper's hanging around yesterday. We usually have a nest in one of the neighbor's yards so I'm pretty sure this one was from last year's hatch. I haven't seen the parents yet, but I'm sure that they are around somewhere. Haven't had one go after my massive brahmas, but they sure like the chicks and my smaller laying hens. This year I'm raising the chicks inside, but as spring arrives I'll let my broody raise some. So, back to the scare man and other methods to keep them away. I'm hoping that they will like the quail that have moved in more than my chickens!

Most certainly, a good rooster can make a big difference. I have heard stories here of them chasing hawks off.

Going for the head/eyes, is a very common tactic, as is plucking all the flight feathers. This provides the hawk the fastest kill, and least chance of escape. Glad your bird escaped.
My roo has help keep a lot of things at bay over the years.
