Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forum and could really do with some advice.
Two of my chickens have recently died and after a post mortem, it showed up to be Avian tuberculosis. I'm gutted as the chickens I have are so well cared for and loved, I realise now though that the pigeons who also used to take from my chicken's feeder may have caused the disease.
My vet has told me there is little I can do suggesting I euthanize my remaining 7 girls.
This is something I can't do unless I feel they're suffering in anyway and at this point they seem bright and active.
I guess my main question is has anyone dealt with this and is there any kind of treatment, either herbal or chemical I could try?
Thanks.

Welcome to BYC. Sorry about your diagnosis. Your vet may be right about culling your flock, since all poultry are susceptible and the disease contaminates your soil and environment. People who are immune compromised could potentially get sick. You cannmake up your mind about how to proceed after doing some reading. Here are a few articles that you may want to read about avian TB:

Hi Rossigirl80, I’m really sorry to learn you went through such a devastating disease. What happened to your flock?

One of my three girls (they are about 3.5 years old) has undergone surgery as she was poorly for, apparently, a few days. After several nights in hospital, multiple tests and several hundred euros spent on trying to save her, we’ve just euthanised her because the disease was spread all over the place. We were told, initially, that it could be Egg Yolk Peritonitis because both conditions share many similar symptoms. We are awaiting the post mortem results. The other two ladies seem happy and fine and continue to lay healthy eggs on a daily basis. The deceased one, Cinnamon, stopped laying eggs a few weeks back, and had been under the weather for a few days prior to taking her to hospital.

All this just to express my deepest sympathy. I’d love to hear from any of you that have experienced something similar.
Tony
