Do you have coconut oil? Olive oil?

I would try getting her to eat some coconut oil and gently massaging her crop. It sounds to me like she is all bound up in there and things just are not moving.


The green poo as me worried about starvation. Can you weigh her? Maybe weigh yourself then again while holding her.....


Oyster shell and grit are two different things. Grit is small stones usually granite. It stays in the system longer to help grind food.

She was weighed yesterday at over 2 kilos he didnt give me her exact weight for records.. i wish i had scales but i dont

If i go to get coconut oil today how can i get her to eat some do i just give it to her and she will eat it or?

You will likely have to make pea sized balls of the coconut oil and hand feed them to her. I would shoot for a tablespoon worth of possible.
You may need to do the oil and massage a few times a day.

I will go and get some right now i only live up the road from a shopping centre

Unfortunately, many vets will not admit that they don’t know much about chickens. My own daughter is a vet out of state and she said that they were not taught much about chickens, other than what bumblefoot looks like. I tend to think that is why this forum has been so successful, with people sharing their experience.

Hens sometimes will crow if there is not a rooster in the flock. Plenty of people have discribed this. Does your hen lay eggs, or has she ever?

At 16 months, she is a little young to suffer from reproductive disorders, but occasionally one will suffer from one. Crop disorders such as impacted or sour crop can be common alone, or may accompany reproductive disorders, ascites, or when there are tumors in the digestive tract. Yours sounds like she has a crop impaction if her crop is hard in the early morning before she eats. The refrigerated coconut oil bits are a good idea, but water is even more important to give her or even tube feed.

Green poop can be a sign that she has not been getting enough food, probably secondary to her crop impaction. Hopefully, @casportpony can find a good vet to see in your area.

Yes she has laid eggs and i think the past one she laid was about 4 or so days ago

She has been digging around straw/hay in a pile i put ready to be put into a bin the other day..
She has had shell grit i mix it with her scratch mix

"Shell grit" generally refers to oyster shell which is used to provide calcium.....it is soluble and readily broken down to be absorbed by the body.
Digestive grit is different....digestive grit is non soluble rock (ie granite) that is meant to be held in the gizzard and works with the musculature to help grind and break down foods such as whole sedd/cracked grain (scratch) which are otherwise not eadily digested by the bird.
It sounds like your bird hasn't had the latter

She had about 1 teaspoon worth of coconut oil and told me to pretty much go away lol should i gently massage still
