Aviary pics

beautiful aviary ! what kinds of plants do you have in there?

I have a lot of purple fountain grass in there. I'm not exactly sure what plants are in the pond cuz the guy that gave them to me was just going to throw them away cuz they were either going to die when winter came or he needed more room for the next year.

How long do you think it will take till my mandarin male gets his feathers?
(Sorry I know its not the best picture quality)

Based on what I can see, your drake has some color starting to come in. The breast region oftentimes has the first hints of color coming in. It will continue to increase and you will notice how he will get new feathers coming in on his head. It may take like two more weeks for him to acquire color. Young drakes always tend to take longer to get into breeding plumage as compared to a breeder.

Okay thanks, I was thinking he would be in full plumage in another 4 weeks. I'm hoping your cinnamon teals gets them talking a little bit more, the wood duck and mandarin females talk but not much of the males.

The Cinbamon Teal you are getting hang out mostly by themselves and do not interact much with the Wood Ducks and Mandarins. Once your males are in breeding plumage they will figure things out!

I have only had the pond for a little over 2 months and last week was the first time I had to drain it because it got pea green all of a sudden. But I think taking out the plants( the ducks started eating them) and I wasnt able to clean it very much that week. I am getting a uv clarifier and somehow rig something up so I can put plants in and the ducks won't be able to eat them. Doing this should help the algea and I shouldn't have to drain it as much.

Wow!!! Very nice aviary! I'm very envious! I recently acquired 2 pairs of woodies, 3 cinnamon teal, 5 Laysan Teal and a pair of grey call ducks. I am working on doubling the size of the 14x16 enclosure and moving my domestic ducks ( runners, Anconas and Cayugas) to a different location. They free range all day but over night in the adjoining 14x16 pen... What kind of pump are you using and did you take pics through the building process at all? I would love to build a pond maybe 12x14 kidney shaped or something similar... Looking good Roy!!
