Hello everyone great to be aboard and kudos to all the community here for offering up their great information I've learned much already.
Brief overview...I've researched and chose to go with the Pilgrims due to they are very easy to maintain, great parents, quieter of the species and auto sexing is a bonus.
I ordered 3 different sets from 3 different nurseries in hopes of having a strong genetic flock. 13 total. My plan is to save all the females and 1 male from each nursery in the end. I purchased a shed 16'x10' for their night time home to keep safe from coyotes.
I recently rototilled and replanted a half acre if my farm property using multiple seeds of grasses that should be perfect for their grazing needs.
So far I have 8 two week olds and 5 more are expected this week.
My biggest question is how should I set up my night shed? Do I need to provide food and water all night long as well as during the day? If I didn't....I would imagine I'd have a quarter of the mess inside the shed. If they can be healthy by just food and water during the daylight hours I think it'd save a huge amount of cleaning work. I've thought about a water system inside tying the gutters into a water barrel but then I'm thinking might not be necessary inside.
Thoughts?
Here are a few pics so far. Will try to post more tomorrow of shed and property.
