My wife and children and I keep a dozen layers (give and take) in Northern California. I'm in love with this most amazing domesticated animal, even if I'm not the best farmer.

Over the past ten years, we've pretty much stuck with brown egg layers. Lately I've started hybridizing. It seems so many breeds have been produced over the past century for strictly production, my aim is for an American breed that actually eats and produces a little slower, with a little slower metabolism and a longer productive life.
