7ish weeks old, tail feathers are long, all others are rounded. Comb is medium and waddled are meh. 20200416_153211.jpg 20200416_153214.jpg 20200416_153215.jpg 20200416_153223.jpg 20200416_153238.jpg 20200416_153219.jpg

With that amount of comb at 7 weeks, I’d say cockerel. Unfortunately feathers won’t be a reliable sexing factor until he’s 12+ weeks old, he’ll get pointed shiny saddle and hackle feathers.

I figured as much, where I live you can't have roosters as to another reason on top of others were trying to move. I just hope we can get a new place before I have to rehome him to my buddy. I'll get some fertile eggs before he goes for sure though. Planning on letting him breed with my marans crosses.

I hope you are able to do so without getting in any trouble. It’s likely he’ll start crowing over the next 2-3 months, but he won’t be good and fertile until he’s about 6 months. I had a Cemani rooster not long ago, it’ll be a shame if you can’t keep yours full grown, they’re nice sleek birds and they’re just magical when the sun hits them.

I had one last year I had to rehome and was hoping to get a pullet this year from the straight run bunch this fella I know had. I'll probably just get some hatching eggs when I move. I won't get in too much trouble. The neighbors are pretty understanding, the one to the south of me is the one who complained the most and it was only when he crowed at 6 am. My neighbors to the east and the west LOVE the sound as much as I do of a rooster crowing. Technically there's no rule against having a roo, the city just cites that they will "intervene if it becomes a nuisance".
