MixedFlock23
Songster
He is nice looking, yes, but quite the jerk. He mated the ladies without their permission (they ran, screamed, got feathers pulled out, & he chased until he got his way) and he flanked both myself and my children multiple times, before we called the breeder. Getting attacked by claws & wings is no fun and too dangerous for kids. Now our roosters (a silkie & a serama/Silkie mix) both dance for the ladies and ask permission before mating (no more running, yelling hens, no more feathers pulled out)… we even had surprise chicks because I didn’t even know they were mating yet (at 6 months old) because it was quiet & consensual, so unlike former roosters. Five months later, things are still quiet here and I’m sure the hens are happier! (& I look for hidden broodies dailyI would be proud of that one. The mulberry is not too bad while the comb and everything else is perfect.... to my eye. It's a shame he had a bad day.

Looking forward to seeing more photo updates if your beautiful birds, @Ylva! Sorry to take over the thread talking about my cockerel. Please let us know if you do indeed have all pullets and if they do lay for a while then take months off of laying at a time as I’ve heard.
