Ayam cemani chicks

An update on the ACs in the first post: They were all killed by a fox in May šŸ˜”. It got into the barn through a broken window, in a part of the barn we don’t use (I wasn’t aware of the broken window). He killed 14 hens and half-grown chicks. I was so mad at myself about it AND heartbroken..

I got a new AC cockerel from a friend, and this weekend I am hatching some AC and AC mixes (one has hatched already). The hens are Marans mixes (one dominant white), Silverudds Blue and Kochin/Barnevelder. I plan on hatching AC/Silkie mixes next spring. Can’t wait to see how the mixes turn out 😊 I will post pictures of the new chicks later!

Absolutely gorgeous, and sorry for you losses šŸ™

It's okay! I also hatched one Ayam Cemani/Auracana mix and she's completely black and layed me an egg today for the first time! That makes it easier to swallow. I can't have roo's so I just wanted them for eggs and to look at.
One of these babies was super late to develop so we thought it was a hen for the longest time then, all of a sudden he got in the most beautiful plumage! All the green and purple hues. A friend of mine took him to keep so I'm happy about that.

At 9,5 weeks I still can’t see much difference between them, and I have no idea whether they are cockerels or pullets. My other 9,5 weeks old chicks are easy to sex.
(They moved around a lot, so I don’t know if I got a picture of all four of them, or if it is the same chick on several pictures šŸ˜…)

I think I see one pullet (bottom left corner) but the others look like cockerels to me.
