I bought to Ayam Cemani chicks, male and female, and now that they are grown, the male has white on it's neck but the female does not. I bread them and hatched the eggs and the males still have white on them. Is this not a pure breed? Thanks ahead of time!
I was waiting for someone to reply to you, but for now I’ll reply even though I have zero knowledge on this breed. My thought was that this breed was black from head to toe for it to be purebred.
That rooster is still beautiful but definitely not one I would breed if I want to sell chicks of that breed since there will always be leakage. Sorry.
He may be pure AC but he isn't pure for the color black.
The hen may or may not have the same issue but the pullets will carry some of the roosters feather color genes.
Pullets a lot of times carry the same problem genes but they just don't show on females like they do on males.
If you're serious about breeding ACs I wouldn't use any of the birds you have. That leakage is a serious fault and very undesirable.
The pullets arent showing it but I bet they are carrying the same genes that are responsible for it.
You breed those pullets and their male offspring will show it.
Ayam Cemani may very well be Birchen at the E locus and to make them full black they need some melanizers, Birchen females with a few or that are heterozygous for the melanizers can be solid black or have a few silver feathers on the top(not the body) so I believe your birds are lacking the melanizers to make them full black.
Once they are lost you can't regain them unless you introduce a solid black bird to your breeding program
A lot liked them because when they first came out here they were super expensive.
Some saw dollar signs and figured they could invest in a few and then sell many and make a boat load.
Others liked the idea of having something most couldn't afford.
Some did like the unique look of them.
