Ayam Cemani..???

I wrote that wrong, I meant to write NOT all these black skinned projects are going to look anything like them.

Yes I agree you can make a look a like with a good dose of extended black and some fibro melanistic genes added in.
Thing I was getting at is I see ( on several threads not just this one) of people saying to make them using just any ol black skin bird, some even advised using silkies in one thread.
Problem with all that is , there still are type isses to deal with. In other words, just any ol black faced bird isnt going to be good for a cemani project.
Problem 2 is, some one will do it and start selling them as such, which kind burns me a bit. Like you said, are they cemani? NO, but they wont tell you that and charge folks out the rear for them most likely.

Plus there's something about the fibro in cemani. The ones I have seen are just 100 time blacker than any other fibro birds I have seen. I mean jet black with NO pinkish reddish tint to them. Other breeds like silkies and sumatra still have a some what redding to the face, some more so that others, but even the darkest is not close to cemani that I have seen. Not sure what's so special genetically about it, but they are midnight jet black.

I've had all the silkies, 4 colors of awesome sumatra bantams, even have fibro melanistic phoenix , their skin pales in comparison.

Is it possible to make a some what look a like? Sure it is, you can do that with anything, but put side by side with the real thing...it'll be no where near it.
Basically a black bird with darker skin , doesnt make cemani...just call it my all black chicken

She's so well known around the world, and honestly doesnt sell much if any thing so it's hard to get a reply from her unless she knows you. The cemani are just not something she's parting with right now, she just has a few herself

The only thing is that, that picture is a full grown cock but mine is only about 6 months old and still have more to fill out.

My understanding is that green junglefowl went into the breed. I imagine a bird from Indonesia would have different vocalizations, temperament traits, and perhaps temperature tolerance/various behavioral/egg laying/etc traits than someone who bred a black bird with a single comb in the states. If someone created an "American ayam cemani", that'd be awesome! But, I'd still personally want imported bloodlines from Indonesia, because to me, they would not be the same thing. It's actually a breed I fell in love with early on. I'd love to have some, and hope they do become available some day.

they already have made them here as well as imports. Problem is, those that have them arent parting with them. They have put a lot of time and effort into the breed and at this point it is very very rare in the US , so they need to continue working with them and putting them on in the hands of great care givers. One day though, there will be enough stock to start offering them to the public. They are fairly common in Louisiana due to the Voodoo practices there. They are one of the more commonly used breeds for it
