Cracked open a dorking egg for breakfast yesterday, and to my surprise, it looks fertile!!

After an entire year of infertile eggs, now that the incubator is officially turned off for the season, they're fertile.

(I'm going to throw a couple in anyway, just to see....

) I REALLY want chicks from Junior!!

Got 2 "sports" from the WD eggs. One Buff splotched and one that should end up Cuckoo/Barred

They all have 5 toes, good legs, nice size and lots of vigor!

Yup, I will. I've got full intentions to focus on the Coloreds. The Whites are a great "tool" to have handy, for visuals on size, type, etc. without having color to distract from things. They'll compliment eachother nicely, I think, and the WD allow me a better clear overall picture, so I can use that knowledge to work hard on the Colored Dorkings.

As you mentioned before, I don't want too much goin on, or I won't be able to make the most of what I've got.

Now, to get through till the Spring. I should be hatching from these, by then, as well as hatching another batch of eggs from Mr Hart

Not sure how I missed your reply but I doubt you'd have enjoyed the last few days, nearly 3" of rain and cold! Mud and slush everywhere.

A sad update on my Dorkings, my unrelated roo fell seriously ill with a respiratory illness and I had to cull him.

This is a great lesson for anyone wanting to keep only one roo, 4 weeks till breeding season and I'm down to one roo. If I'd had only one my chances of finding one in time for the breeding season would be around zero.

I'll be culling all excess birds and keeping a close eye on the remaining ones for any signs of illness. All breeding plans are on hold till I see if any other birds get sick.
