BABIES HAVE BEGUN TO SHOW UP!

two from Marans mamas and one from my Olive Egger. Not sure about the daddies.

I know people using incubators and brooders will line the brooder floor with paper towels. These are mama raised. The coop has PDZ and pine shavings. Should I cover that with paper towels? When should I add a waterer and/or feeder in the coop?

AWE! So cute! Hope the rest all hatch well! What breed is your mommy hen? My momma, Tangerine, hatched out 1 baby on Friday, 1 on Saturday and I just gave her 1 baby that hatched out under a different momma and she was so mean to it so I gave it to Tangerine. I also have 2 pipped eggs and one is zipping!

Thank you! Doris is a Blue Marans. It is day 23, either I miscalculated or Doris didn’t settle into seriously sitting for a day or two. Maybe she didn’t like that we moved her out of the main house and gave her eggs in this private coop. She is 1y8m and this is the first time she (and me!) has hatched a clutch. She is so good. We disturb her and she growls at us but never has pecked either me or hubby Bern.
How exciting this is. I saw the first egg pipped but I haven’t seen pips on any other even the hatched ones. Do you lift your hen to see progress?
