babies not on the morning truck:(

now im really worried...just got back from the post office...no chickens in the truck...that means the earliest will be tomorrow morning which is 3 days without food/water!

how long can the lil guys survive in a box at 1 day old!??!??

I believe they can survive up to 72 hours on their egg yolk, but the longer they go, obviously the harder it is on them. I'm so sorry your chicks haven't gotten to you yet. Call Ideal and find out what's going on! Maybe they can track the shipment for you.

Please keep us posted.

How far away is the regional distribution center? Sometimes you can go there to get them.
My fingers are crossed!

Yes, definately have your PO call the distribution center and see if they're there. They probably are and would gladly give them to you if you'd come get them. If you do, be sure to check on them at the PO and go ahead and give them some water, maybe with vit & electrolyes or even just a little sugar.

I was so worried they would all be dead. They were Bantams and that made me worry more. When I got to the PO I heard peeping and I was very relieved, but they did not look good. One was dead already and the rest looked horrible. They were weak and shaky. It was sad. I gave them water with quick chick in it and dipped all of there beaks. Some wouldn't drink. I stayed home all day and nursed them. I lost 7 more that day. The next morning two more passed. It was so sad to watch and there was only so much I could do. On a good note we have 17 now that are doing great at almost 3 weeks old. I am keeping my fingers crossed for your little ones. Oh and the free chick they gave us was standard size and he seemed just fine when he arrived. Are yours standard? I think they are tougher.

ok so you guys rock...i called the distribution center and sure enough the chicks were there. The didnt send any extras which is what i asked for. Even so she did tell me that the order had already been shipped with extra males. So apparently requesting no extra males worked!

Anyways of the 11 i got ( 4production red pullets and one PR male, 3 production black pullets and 3 RIW pullets, half of them look pretty good, the other half are not doing so well, they are sort of standing without any motion and almost quivering....that half wont drink or eat so far. The red guys look awesome, and bigger than the rest. Kinda disappointing that all the RIWs and all the blacks dont look good. Cross your fingers for me and the chicks.

You do know that you need to dip their beaks in the water for the first time, maybe two, right? I'm glad you got them and if any die in the next couple of days call the hatchery and get credit/refund. Good luck.
