Babies now or in the spring?

I wouldnt hesitate to get them now--I just hatched some showgirls today. Some of my hens werent even mine until a couple years ago and they are still firendly.

Get the now--you wont regret it. I would start with the six--you can always add later. And it may be less overwhelming if there are less of them.

Either way, good luck and have fun!

you guys are awesome.

I just got mine on Thursday - and I got 8 of the little cuties.... plenty for me (for now)

also a good thing now with the heat, they didn't add any for warmth.

Buff Orpingtons are some of the friendliest chickens.

While I agree completely with this statement there are exceptions with any breed to how friendly or mean they are. I love my Buff Orp hens and I loved my roo. However he was quiet the stud and bred my hens constantly. Which led to bare-backs because we only had around 6 hens at the time and it was easy for him to pick favorites. And one night he started me when he came rushing through my legs and I gave quick kick and that was all that was needed to turn him mean. No he didnt attack me every time I came into the yard but he did keep an eye on me. I wish I still had him and I could replay that night. But the over breeding of my favorite hen which led to her having a gash on her back was too much. BUT DO NOT let this post sway you. I say GO for the Buff Orp roo and you will not be sorry. Whenever I start a new flock again after college I will deffinetly have an Orp roo leading it. Even though now of days they have BLUE ORPS I might have to get me one of them!
Good Luck with the chicks
