I hatched some roadside eggs and the chicks look like red and black sex links I think. The red ones vary in color from buff ( like a BO ) to orange ( like RIR ) I think the hens were all sex links. I'm not sure what the rooster was. The black ones are almost all black but with some red brown on their heads. Some have a little white on them. One has a white dot on its head. Sorry I can't post pictures. Has anyone had experience with babies of sex links? Can they be sexed at all by color? How about feather sexing? How do they rate as layers?

Black and red sex links are hybrids, so that means that they should not breed back true, but do you know anything about where these eggs come from ? . I don't think it would be reliable to color or feather sex these birds, but hey what the heck. I do know one thing though they are fantastic layers and very hearty birds I have enjoyed mine.

I have some chicks that look similar to both of yours but since they are only 2 days old they don't have any feathers yet on their wings so I guess I'll have to wait a few more days to see what color comes out. I did try to feather sex them today. If it works with these 4 are female, 3 males, and 2 not sure. I still have to check the ones with the hen. Then I separated them by the thickness of their legs. 5 have slightly thicker legs and 4 thiner. Of the 4 thiner, 3 of these feather sexed as females. Of the 5 thicker, 1 of these feather sexed as a female.
