I got my new batch o f chicks yesterday and I noticed I had one who acts like he can't stand up or even walk... He is also breathing heavy and very sleepy.. I moved him this morning to see if I was just dreaming something was wrong, and marked him so I could make sure he was the same chick. And he was still there what I checked on him a hour later... So I have been checking on him hourly and trying to get him to take water, at least.
I have him setting next to me now, in a rag to stay warm

Here is what I have done:
I have given him water, with a dropper- he has taken it
I tryed the grul of starter- would not take
I have held him up to see if he would stand- no luck
I have kept the box around 95 degrees.

It looks like his nose might be stopped up, after comparing him to another chick.

What should I do next, if anything. Maybe I'm just overreacting here too.
Thanks a bunch
Michelle

First thing is to isolate it away from other chicks. Second see if you can unstop its nostrils ( maybe with one of those baby bulbs or something, not sure never had that problem ). Third, is it plain water youre giving it? Maybe try some sugar water. Fourth, just keep it comfy & hope for the best. Thats about all I can figure. Hope it gets better & maybe someone else can give better input for ya. Editted to say .... Have you run a search on spraddle leg? Does it try to stand at all?

Thanks. I have him in a shoe box next to me. I did the sugar water this morning, but I was worried I would give him to much.
I forgot to add, everytime you touch him, he's VERY churpy...
I'm use to having a hen raise the chicks so me palying mom to chicks is SO new....

HE didn't make it.. I went to the restroom and came back adn found him belly up and not moving.. Just before I walked over to him, I heard a loud churp and some movement and than I looked in and he was gone.....

I am so sorry for you loss. I went through the same thing the other day. My little chick had the SAME symptoms (not walking/standing, breathing hard, chirpy). I managed to keep her alive for 3 days before she finally went. It's heart breaking to lose one so young, esspecially after trying your hardest to keep it alive.
