This baby has been seemingly stuck with its beak out the pip hole for about 18 hours or longer. I started to assist hatch this morning because I honestly thought it was dead but when I saw it move its beak open to breathe I put it back in incubator. Do I need to keep helping?? I doesn't retract its beak at all.
@Pyxis is the hatching expert! I honestly don't know, but if it's been like that for 18hrs, I would at least carefully moisten the membrane with coconut oil, triple antibiotic ointment/Bacitracin
Here's the article about assisted hatching by Pyxis, you may find that helpful https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/guide-to-assisted-hatching-for-all-poultry.72886/
Thankyou all for your quick responses. I do however wish my question was asked quicker. I'm pretty sure the baby died shortly after I posted as I noticed beak stopped moving. Thankyou all anyway. I will ask sooner next time. There is 1 egg left to hatch let's hope that goes smoothly.
