We got 6 baby chicks a 1 week 3 days ago. 3 are healthy, 2 died and 1 still can’t eat on its own. We finally found out (after much research) how to feed it the watered down food. 4 days ago we thought it was on its last leg but it willed itself to live through the night. It has taken 4 days to get it to finally start gaining a bit of wait (very slowly) and can finally stand on it’s own without falling and not being able to hold up its own body and head. it now wakes up in the middle of the night yelling to be fed (not cool at all) and is showing a better response.
But.....we still cannot get it to go to the water and drink and peck the food no matter how much we try to train it and show it the food. It will walk up to both but just sits there and doesn’t know what to do. We’ve tried putting feed down on some newspaper like we’ve read but it won’t even look down or acknowledge that there is food.
Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. I don’t want to handfeed (with a dropper) this chick forever and especially in the middle of the night. How long should we feed with a dropper?
