I have a baby chick that is about 5 days old and the breast has split from its body. Almost, like it has burst out of its skin (second pic). These are broilers and now that I look at all of them I am getting paranoid. All there breast seem enlarged. This is my first time growing chickens and I have studied this site for months, Has this ever happen to anyone else? Am I over feeding or just a genetic defect? Also, it seems to me that some their breast appears to be more to one side than the other (first pic). Is this normal. Thanks for help!

Bump. I have no idea. Broilers tend to be deformed in my experience, but I don't know what to do for him. Hopefully someone will see this who knows what to do. Good luck.

Is it an enlarged crop? Maybe one of the oldtimers (chicken experienced) can chime in here... What have they been eating?...Are they getting grit?
I wish I could be more helpful, Good Luck....

It is normal for one side of their breast where the crop is located to be larger than the other especially after eating. I have never heard of one getting so large it split open. Is the skin torn or just stretched tight? Meat birds are bred to eat all they can to grow as fast as they can. I understand you want them to grow as fast as possible but would limit the amount they are eating.
