Crowing
A passing that looks peaceful likely is. I have not hatched chicks but have gotten tiny ones and lost two out of about 20 birds. It’s very hard thinking you should or could have done more but that’s not usually the case.

The poor thing passed about 30 mn ago. I couldn't bring myself to do anything to it, just kept it warm & cozy & it didn't seem to suffer a lot? It just opened its eyes & went limp immediately. I am praying it was a peaceful & painless death
Thank you very much![]()
They are sad circumstances indeed but at least I get to learn from all of you for the remaining chicks & for the upcoming hatches, that way we'll never have to see another fluff ball suffer in any way hopefully.
Thank you so much for these kind words. It really helps.
I know it's part of nature & that these things happen, yet I can't help but think that it was maybe something we did wrong that messed everything, especially since a lot of things happened this time (I think we shouldn't have followed the instructions of the machine regarding the heat when they started hatching, as it has been very, very hot here & all the chicks hatched prematurely. I'll need to investigate a bit more in the appropriate sections).
I am glad I get to learn from such an amazing community and look forward to raising happy & healthy chickens.
Thank you for these kind words, it makes me feel much better. I would have never thought I could love a chick that fast and that much. I am feeling less emotional today and kind of 'glad' it's not suffering anymore. From all you guys told me & what I read since, it would be too selfish of me to wish for it to stay alive if it meant a miserable life.A passing that looks peaceful likely is. Thank youWhat you described sounded (to experienced chicken people) like a genetic defect. So, not caused by you! It’s not all that uncommon in chickens. You kept the baby comfortable in its short life! You did everything right.![]()

Thanks, I am very flatteredAnd by the way, I think your english is better than mine and I was raised here.

). It just that we are so influenced by France here in Morocco that it was always refreshing to follow what was going elsewhere and I guess that helped me with my english. I think the one thing that gives me away when I speak is if I have english speakers from different origins: I just start speaking in 5 accents at the same time

I've always loved english & everything related to the British & North American cultures (I know both are very different).
