Baby Chick Gasping

Are they on chick starter or all flock crumbles and eating/drinking well despite the gasping?

I would not get chicks from that breeder again until you try chicks from elsewhere first and have success, as having two batches with gasping chicks is either genetic or something where your brooder is.

I've hatched hundreds of my own and shipped eggs and never had one do that.
Yes, that's probably best ro come up to this problem again with these chicks.
But yes, she is drinking, eating and pooping despite the gasp.
But I'm going to dry to add oregano in her water help with her gasp to see if that improves for her.

When you say gasping do you mean more like struggling to breathe rather than a pant?
It doesn't quite look like she's struggling it's almost like she's just opening her beak every so often under her brooder, not when she's out and about though eating and drinking.
But she's acting perfectly fine with the other two girls ither than that.

Have you used that oregano before? I read there is a huge misunderstanding of the differences of oregano oil and oregano essential oil. If using oregano essential oil, it's only ONE drop per gallon of water. For the oregano oil, one teaspoon per gallon.

I'm not gonna use the oregano oil seeming it may be too strong for my baby chicks, so I'm just gonna add the herb.

Hm, it does almost sound like she could be warm? Since she's acting fine I would just monitor her. I'm sure she's okay!

I think I know the problem, because I heard you shouldn't put your brooder of chicks near an outlet because this may cause not a lot of oxygen for the babies, which causes an air gasp for your chicks.
It's a little hard to explain but thats the best way I can put it.

Interesting, I haven't heard of that before! Wouldn't hurt to test it out and move them.

Yeah for sure, cause I didn't see any sign of the chicks doing this behavior before when I was picking them out from my breeder.
