Hi, just wondering if anyone can help me. I have hens but have never let one hatch eggs before so I am a bit of a novice. 2 eggs hatched but my broody trampled them. Because there were a few eggs left I went straight out and bought an incubator and transfered the remaining eggs to that. One chick hatched last night fully but it took a good 48 hours for this to happen. It is still in the incubator and is making a lot of noise but is struggling to stand up. It's been 12 hours since it fully hatched, is this normal? She also looks wet still so I am wondering if i need to transfer her to a box and lamp? Any answers would be very welcome

I'm a novice also but I just hatched 2 eggs last week that I had to help out of the shell. It took them a solid 48 hours to get on their feet. I left them in the bater for 4 days with food and water (very small containers). They just went in the brooder with the rest of the chicks. I'd say give it time. One of mine kept falling over on its back. I set it up right and massaged it and got it moving. It would start peeping loud if it fell over, had stiff legs. I just kept a watch on it, petted and massaged (very gently) it and then it was fine. Hope this helps but someone more experienced hopefully will chime in.

Thanks for that. My instincts say give it time. Non of the other eggs have hatched so i feel kind of sorry for the poor little thing

I haven't timed it or anything, but I notice that my chicks stagger/flop around for a good bit before they're really walking around. I probably wouldn't fret much until it's been a good day or so.
