Baby Chick Pictures!!!!! POST!

What kind is she?  I want to have a broody hen.  I want to see them hatch and raise some chicks.

She is an old English game hen mixed with white leghorn. She turned 1 in march and she is on her 2nd hatch this year. Her name is eggyokieoo. She was actually hatch in my yard. She is a sweet girl

That's so neat. None of my Australorps seem to want to do that. They lay eggs, just nobody stays on them. If one decides to be broody, how will I know so I don't take the eggs? I hate to leave eggs out for a couple days to see if somebody will be broody. Is there a way to force a a hen to be broody? Or at least try to convince her nicely?

So, my guess as to gender would be female because the of the wings feathers. It looks like the 2 outside feathers are growing longer. In a male, they grow evenly. I think. Also, i think the chick at the top facing, well "Up" is a RIR too. No idea on sex there.

A hen going broody is a hormonal thing. I don't take eggs out of the box if a hen is in there. When my hens don't roost but stay in the box for a few nights I will move her and her box to my brooder pen. Count eggs and mark the dates leaving eggs for a day shouldn't hurt unless it is too hot or cold.

Some pics after I changed them over to shavings and gave them fresh food. Lots of activity, then it was time for a nap.

Mine just lay and leave. Occasionally I will open the nesting box and someone will be there, if so, I close it and let them be. But they are gone later. I have left the eggs there for a few hours, but all the hens are in the run, doing their thing. Guess no broody ones there.
