Baby Chick Pictures!!!!! POST!

The day they arrived and one week later!! The EE is starting to get feathers a little faster than the others (but they're not far behind!) So much fun watching them grow!

I have three pips this morning, a couple days early! I counted the days, and they should have gone into lockdown yesterday. So when my sister came by yesterday and wanted to candle one, I went ahead and pulled one out, only to discover it had already pipped internally! But that one is already starting to zip, so it didn't seem to hurt it any (it was about 75 degrees and 50%+ humidity in the house).

I also got my order of chicks in the mail this morning. The lady at the post office couldn't resist looking at them before my sister picked them up for me (small town literally one square mile in size, population less than 500; I don't mind if she takes a look at them without asking first).

Out of the 10 bantams I ordered, it looks like I have three Black Cochins, two Barred Cochins, possibly a Mottled Cochin?, two d'Uccles maybe (not sure on color, maybe Gold-necked), maybe a Silver Sebright, and one I'm just not sure on. Then four packing peanuts, which look like three RIR, and a TURKEY! Don't know what I'm going to do about the turkey...

Didn't get very good pics yet, since I'm giving them time to relax a bit.

Anyone know if this one is a Mottled Cochin, or just another Black Cochin? And the one on the left is one of the two that I think may be d'Uccles.

Pretty sure this one is a Silver Sebright.

This one I'm just not sure on.

The Cochins (minus one that was elsewhere at the time). Plus a possible d'Uccle and a RIR?

And of course you can't forget the sleeping turkey.

I know I shouldn't have removed them while there were eggs still hatching, but they were rolling the ones trying to zip.

Yeah, that's what my black cochin Z looked like as a chick. He ended up turning solid black.

I usually avoid opening the incubator while a chick is actively zipping since there's a high risk of them drying out and becoming trapped in the shell, but if the ambient humidity is high enough and you're quick about it, they should be fine. Chicks have been hatching for millions of years without the benefit of a sealed incubator to keep them safe, after all.
