Baby Chick Pictures!!!!! POST!

400

thought I would share a couple of pics of my 2 week old chicks - note the one in the first pic, he/she hatched a day before the others. My first instinct was that it was a girl as the wing feathers seemed to indicate it (not that I would know..) as you can see, the tail feathers are about 2" long - the other chickens are only just starting to get their tail feathers. I read that fast growing tail feathers possibly indicate being a boy.. thoughts anyone??

Boy? I thought fast growing feathers meant girl?

My latest batch of chicks is in full-blown "Uggo" stage, also known as the "awkward teenage phase".

White silkie chick. Currently going by the name "Wisteria".

Leonard the exchequer leghorn. Oddly enough, while I have several friendly chicks in this batch, Leonard is the friendliest! I never expected a leghorn chick to be so outgoing!

Leonard the Leghorn again!

David Crowie, a buff-laced Polish crested boy. Also very friendly!

Birdie Mercury, a gold-laced Polish crested boy. Not as outgoing as David.

Penny, my female exchequer leghorn, and "Clover", a silkie chick of uncertain color.

I named this white-crested-black Polish "Jon Bon Crowvi", but my husband wants to call him "Oni" instead, so I guess that's what we'll go with.

Button and Bluebell, my blue silkie chicks. Don't ask which is which--although I can tell them apart at this stage, I'm waiting to see what their genders turn out to be before I stick them with permanent names.

Clover practicing her flying skills.

Rosie, my favorite of the silkie chicks. She(?) is the friendliest and most outgoing silkie I have, and loves to snuggle. She also has a prey drive like nobody's business, and will happily gobble up squash bugs--a garden pest that no other chicken to date was willing to touch! She is sure to be a family favorite for that little quirk alone!

Rosie again.

And Leonard one more time.
