I have got to get a silkie in the spring. Should I get a started chicken so they fit in with the older hens??

Keep in mind that older chickens have to be quarantined before being introduced to the rest of the flock, and that means no contact at all--not even sharing the same air to prevent the spread of any unknown airborne conditions. After that, they have to be slowly introduced to the flock to avoid altercations. By the time it's all said and done, you may be better off getting some chicks and raising them around your older chickens in a partitioned pen.

Leghorn? He looks like a brown version of my leghorn, Leonard who's the same age. lol Leonard started crowing at 2 weeks old, so no question there, either!

I love it when good advice is also what I really want to do. I was given a silkie chick years ago by the animal rescue and rehab center that I volunteered for. It was at the local zoo where my husband worked in landscaping maintenance. One day a couple came in with this baby bird that they thought was an eagle. The rehab group did not have the heart to tell them that it was not an eagle (they were so excited to rescue it )so they took it in and ask my husband if I would like to "rehab" this chicken, lol. It was the sweetest little bird. I am looking forward to adding one to my new little flock. Thanks for the advice. Anne

Thanks! They're real sweeties, too! I had a problem with the orange one charging right off the edge of the table because she was trying to run to me. Fortunately, it's not far to the floor and the carpet makes a soft landing! D:

Yep, I do believe you have a boy! At least this is one time my prediction will probably be correct .. lol

Every time I look at this picture I can't help but think that comb is not real! I know it is but it just brings to mind those joke strap on shark fins but a strap on comb instead

He is definitely a very handsome little man!
