Pretty chicks!
The chicks above look like some kind of black sex-link. That means you can tell which sex the chicks are by the color of their chick down. See the white spot on the head of that one chick? That means it is one sex. the chicks without it are another sex, .



Oh well, this is interesting. The chick above look like what is called a "White pearl" coloring. I had one once hatched out of a supposed Golden Salmon Marans egg. ( obviously it wasn't a Golden Salmon Marans coloring ). Really pretty bird. A friend took it. I only saw it later in it's juvenile feathers so no idea how it eventually feathered out in it's adult feathers. But it sure was a pretty teenager!

Awh, these are my favorites! These chipmunk striped chicks are built on the e+ allele. An allele is the basic canvas on which all the other plumage colors are painted to make the final color of the chicken. These chicks have some other color genes in them other than pure e+ which is called "Black-Breasted Red or "wildtype". Ic an tell because in wildtype the down is absolutely definitive fr purity. The arrows going over the tops of their head show be crisply outlined. Here we see jagged edges which means another color gene or modifier exists. Still the rest of the down looks pretty book. These chicks should feather out "basically" as wildtype. Tho there will be some differences from the pure form. They are not eb ( brown based). Those chicks have a "brown helmet" instead of an arrow stripe so these chicks will not feather out as a "partridge" colored bird. I think you will like the color of these chicks when they finally get into their adult feathers. Chicks go thru 3 feather stages.
1. The chick down ( when you can make some general color observations).
2 . The Juvenile feathers, where you can make more color observations but some adult colors do not show up in the juvenile feathers stage.
3. Finally the adult feathers when you get to see if you guessed right, smile.

actually i don't think he had any sex links all were ohiki chicks from his flock of barred, black, fibro, wheaten, ginger, duckwings, shojo, millie, chocolate. i know i have duckwings not what colours in the last pic.

The panties I made didn't stay on and the chicks were pecking his navel which was dried, but they did draw some blood.I separated the chicks and waited for the navel to heal then, I got elmer's glue and put it on the spot, then glued on rabbit fur. the other chick didn't like that.
