Baby Chick Pictures!!!!! POST!

I have 21 eggs 8 of them are Americauna eggs and only like 2 are developing the Americauna are set to hatch around August 18th. 12 of the eggs are set to hatch around August 23rd they are a mix set of eggs 2 to 4 eggs are silky some of the eggs on Easter Eggers and the others I do not remember the name to. Yesterday Wednesday August 10th I said one egg from a special neighbor of mine and I am pretty sure it will hatch in 21 days I do not know what breed it is as I am pretty sure it may end up being a naked neck- what color are naked neck chickens eggs? The one egg will hatch sometime around August 30th.

Here's my Golden Buff pullet, Mimi, with her three adopted chicks (black Australorps). She lead them out of the pen to forage for the first time today.

I can tell I might be letting a lot of hens hatch chicks next Spring...this is adorable!

How old were your chicks when you introduced them and how did you do it?

Mimi has been broody for two months, so I caved and went to the farm store. The chicks had come in that week, so probably a few days old. I waited until sunset, then shoved them under her in the nestbox she had taken over. A lot of people wait until dark, but I wants to be able to see if there was a problem. I had some older chicks in the brooder already if it didn't work out. Next morning, one was still in with her while two were wandering in the pen, so I put them all in a large dog crate. Next day when I opened it up to clean, Mimi hopped out, beelined to her nest box, and called the chicks to her. So, I let her call the shots and removed the crate.

just coz they werent under her doesnt mean they hadnt been. at 2 days old some of ours were out in the coop while mum was in the nest with the others keeping them warm.
at 4 days she was teaching them to dig the coop floor and was in and out the nest all day. your 2 wanderers may have returned to the nest on their own, theyre super fast learners.

A Cuckoo Marans and three new baby Easter Egger pullets from http://chickensforbackyards.com/

They are all soooo docile! I can place my hand in front of any of them and they will climb right on it and sit contentedly as I pet them. They immediately knew what the MHP was for, that the stuff in the feed bin was for eating and even where to get their drinks! I didn't have to teach them anything! Not too shabby for three day olds, if I do say so.

Oops, make that four, they sent me a bonus EE

Anybody have a guess what this uniformly cream colored little peeper will look like when she grows up? An all white EE hen would be so Kewel!
OK, here they are at 1 week (give or take a few days) I can only specifically match the Marans and the yellow EE to their day(s) old photos, the rest have changed too much!

They were distress-peeping and Mimi wasn't responding, so I wasn't sure if they had bonded yet. Didn't want to chance it. Now, no worries about that!
