Did you test them against a known temperature and salt slurry??

Tips on checking accuracy of thermometers and hygrometers:

The thing you want to do is check that any of thermometers and hygrometers are correct by testing them against a known criteria.
Comparing devices is useless unless you know how accurate any of them are.

I used a candy thermometer tested in boiling water and noted how far off 212 degrees it was...or whatever temp water boils at your altitude.
You can check your boiling temp at altitude here.
Then put the candy thermometer and 3 others in the incubator during the test run and compared them all, noting any differences.

I made a chart noting all temps and made notes about if this one reads this temp it is actually that temp.

Hygrometers can be tested by putting 1/2 cup salt and 1/4 cup water in a dish or jar and mixing it to a slurry.
Put the salt slurry jar and the hygrometer next to each other in a sealed plastic bag.
After 8-12 hours the hygrometer should read 75%...again note and differences and you're set.

Wow, we have had 258 views on our Live Chick Cam! That's so exciting:)

if you have tried to view it and you saw a black screen, we were having an issue with the camera setting and believe we have fixed the problem. The feed has been up for a couple hours without dropping out.

We also got some pretty funny video last night with an escape artist leaving the brooder and jumping on my dog. Posted the videos on our fb page as well.

Happy Chick Raising!

Anyone have any ideas on breeds? I got them today from TSC, six assorted bantams. (Two not pictured since they are both buff silkies) These four are clean-legged. I'm especially interested in figuring out what the black one is, she's (or he) a total mystery to me. Someone asked earlier, she has no white dot on the back of her head. No crest either.

Not sure on exacts...but the poofy headed ones are Polish I believe :)

Here are our chickies. 2 are production red, 4 came from a pen labeled "Pan Fry" which I think means they're just random ones, and 6 are Bantams but I'm not exactly sure what type of Bantams.

I really like the little gray one and wish I knew what kind it was.

Panfry is usually the roosters they sort out. They're called panfry because that tends to be their fate.

The tiny gray one looks a lot like my banta d'uccles, except I don't see much cheek puff going on. Maybe it's a bantam blue cochin?
