Last night I was checking eggs under my broody. They are due to hatch tomorrow. I found one had been crushed and much of the shell had been removed. I wasnt sure if it was alive but it was though far from ready to hatch. I am just finishing up a quail hatch so the incubator was ready to go. I removed the membrane so it would not dry on the chick but left most it on the bottom half so as to hopefully allow the baby to absorb its yolk sac. Here it is resting and still living this morning in the incubator. It opened its eyes a few times and chirped at me when I shined the flash light on it. I hope it makes it and if it does this is a pretty amazing rescue. Its pretty dark but if you look closely you can make out its eye and beak.
Which one? The first or second. Somebody said the second may be a speckled sussex. I was just trying to verify. I know there are multiple breeds that look like this as chicks
All of my 18 babies in there new brooder! Going from a tiny tote like this
To a 4ft x 3ft brooder! It's 68 degrees here so I feel like I need two heat lamps... Should I keep two on them just to be safe or think I'll be fine with one?
