I hope not!! Because i just got my first ever chickens and started with 18!! You will be fine. The folks at BYC are always willing to help and answer questions. And it is fun here.

This is from when I picked up my 8 little ones on May 4th. 2 of each; buff Orpington, Red Star, Barred Rock, and Silver Laced Wyandotte. They are two weeks old now and growing fast!

This is my first time raising chicks and it's definitely a learning experience. Their coop and run will be finished this weekend if weather cooperates.
 
So this girl is not "technically" a chick, since she is 6 weeks old. But she IS keeping my chick Dougal company. I've appropriately named her Gaelis. She has had next to no handling, but you'd think she was a pocket chick her whole life. My son can hold her and she just sits quietly. She is supposedly a golden lace wyandotte mix with dorking.
