Just had to share my chicks being so quiet after their very first 15 minute stretch in the yard while I changed the brooder bedding. They plumb wore themselves out digging in the dirt for the first time. The little yellow guy was falling asleep and chirping, almost like a song. :) Of course they got quiet when the camera came out. And how come everyone picks on the tiniest one whose trying to nod off?

Where do you live that you took them outside already? How old are they?

Having a heatwave in Kansas, 75+ this afternoon, its been shorts and t-shirt weather here all week. Going to be nearly 80 tomorrow. Plus they had a toasty hot pad wrapped in a towel, along with the brooder walls and a sheet over the top, just in case someone got chilly and no one could go far. The oldest in the group are creeping up on two weeks. :)

Wow! :th it rarely gets that hot during the summer where I live!

It's unusually warm for sure, but that has nothing on our summers! 100 degrees is pretty common place once it gets full swing. Hope these lil babies are ready for some serious sunshine before long.

One of my bantam hens decided to go broody on me during our Cape Cod back to back winter storms. These are her new babies. Six in total so far.

And because I'm utterly enamored and obsessed with my babies tonight, they got a post-nap mash. They were so excited that I even had a few very big brave BB's eat off of a finger. How come no one ever told me chicks were THIS MUCH FUN!
