Baby Chick Pictures!!!!! POST!

I love this discussion thread. Seeing all the little ones is so much fun. They do grow so fast. Just 4 weeks ago mine were that tiny.

Oh yes. While they are super cute and wonderful at that age I won't miss it completely as they are much less likely to health issues like pasty butt and perfect heating when they get older :)

She's actually ahead of everyone, including a sexlink, although she's still smallest overall. And she has tail and shoulder prickles that you might not be able to see.

D'oh! I had a sudden realization that slighter build plus fast feathering might just be a brown Leghorn! Contacted the hatchery with pictures and sure enough, I'm the lucky recipient of their missing Leghorn. I'm going tomorrow to get my Welsummer. He said they had the two bins too close together and knew someone got a hopper after their end of day inventory. So, now I'll have my first white egg layer ever. He said the browns are their least skittish of the white egg layers. Fingers crossed.

And they're doing okay in the brooder together? Did you keep them separated at first? (Asking because I'm getting my first chicks next month but a couple of different breeds a week or so apart, was hoping I can mix chicks of slightly different ages without too many problems...)
Photo is adorable :)

I just went for it and kept a close eye on them, since the older ones seemed so calm natured I felt it was ok. It's been a week now and they have been fine! They all cuddle up together and don't fight for food. I think that's a big factor, just making sure they have enough food.

Sounds good! I planned on having a couple of feeders anyway. I'm going to give it a try, worst case scenario I separate them into two different sides of the brooder with a screen between.
