We just recently ordered 104 baby meat chicks. We have already lost 3 due to natural causes. Anyways that is expected. Today we found one with his intestines hanging from his butt. Poor little guy seems like he is in so much pain! His eye are shut but he is moving. We put him in a box away from the others. We arent sure if we should just cull him or if there is something we should do. Any ideas???? thanks

We decided to put the little guy out of his pain. Sad, but he is no longer suffering. Buried next to the other 3. R.I.P

Meaties have their own special set of problem s - since they are bred to grow at an excellerated rate. I'm fairly certain there is a thread on raising "meat chickens," maybe if you put that in the search box it will pop up.

! Great to have you with us! Sorry to hear about your chick. As drumstick diva said, meaties (Cornish X, anyway) come with a whole set of issues. They seem to be just a little defective from the get go. If this is the only one you lose out of 104 you will be very fortunate. Good luck to you!
