I had this chick who I had to give it an assisted hatch. The chick clawed it’s eye when trying to escape the egg. Now the eye is shut and I’m getting worried about him, he is not as strong as the others. Anything I can do to help him out? If anyone needs a pic I will post. Any help is much appreciated.

Pics are always good.:]

What about Neosporin? I am also looking around for and avian vet if I can’t do anything myself. So far I’m considering separating him from the healthy chicks so they don’t pick at it. Currently giving him save a chick probiotic and electrolyte water as well.

Update: Avain vets are 1 or 2 hours away from me so I don’t feel it is the best idea considering how weak the chick is. I put regular neosporin and also the probiotic and electrolytes in his water once again as well not sure if the poor guy will survive but I’m trying my best.

I would flush the eye with saline eyewash and apply the antibiotic ointment into the eye 2-4 times daily. Giving sips of water with electrolytes, or Poultry NutriDrench would be good. Hopefully, it will make it.

To anyone who has this problem in the future, like what @Eggcessive said the saline solution and antibiotic ointment did work for my chick. Unfortunately as his eye is looking much better his over all health is not looking good. He stopped eating and drinking and I tried so hard to feed him egg yolk and chick starter mixed with water but he fought it. I place him back in the brooder to give him a break and he rolls over on his back immediately no matter how much I try to fix his posture. I did consider culling to stop the suffering but at this point it’s too late and it’s better to let him die in peace.
