Baby Chick with Eye Problem

The antibiotics will only work if:

  • It's a bacterial infection that is sensitive to tylosin.
  • If your chick drinks enough medicated water.

I will not work if it has a fungal or viral infection. Is your cousin nearby? If so, can they do a gram stain for you?

Cousin is coming over. I'll keep you posted. You guys are awesome! I'm gonna love this place!
Oh, so sorry... I'm rude!

This is what happened:

Sarah cleaned her eye for me. and really got a LOT of stuff out of it. Turns out it was crusted "open". Now she is blinking, but pretty mad at us! I was glad to watch her do it, because I was really being too dainty with her.

We put them all on a dose of Tetracycline just in case there is an infection.

She also took a sample of their poo for testing. some of it is a little darker than I like.

I'll keep you posted!

Thank you!

Leslie

Good news! As Casportpony brought up before, why Tylan? I would have said Duramycin-10, which is your tetracycline, can readily be mixed in the water, and even though it's an antibiotic, it not what I would call one of the 'big guns'. Save those for the real nasties that hopefully you don't run into. Do yourself a favor and start keeping a notebook of all of the sicknesses, injuries, meds., and dosings used. This may seem like a pain now but later on you will be very thankful you did so.

Duh, I forgot....if you are going to be treating them all with the medication, there really isn't any need to seperate. Casportpony is also correct about the people at TS. They know what they know. Some have kept chickens others only know them by their morning eggs on their plate. Your best defence is getting savvy yourself. Oh and your cousin, lol! That is an awesome line of defence!
