Baby Chick Won't Eat/Drink; Empty Watery Crop

Oh, don't worry I will. Right now they are sleeping, going to make her some more mush tomorrow or maybe tonight if I have time. Seem okay...I'm trying to think of how I can teach her to eat and drink from the feeder and waterer. She also drank some more water from the plastic cup.

when you figure it out please post..

I have a three pound feeder, because I didn't want to buy the chick ones because I will not be raising new batches of chicks. They can all reach it, if they can't the step onto the rim. My mom told me last night that this EE was seen eating from the feeder yesterday morning.

I'm considering adding mush to her feeder, right now it has chick crumbles. I feed the mush out a little plastic cup. I made them more mush this morning. There's not enough room for four chicks to eat at the same time, but this EE was right there, shoving her head in so she could get the food.

However, we have noticed that she is now the smallest of all four chicks.

She used to be the second biggest when we got them.

well hopefully with her eating better and often with her sibs. she begin to catch up.. I really think giving them the mush helps them to eat better especially when they have problems.. Keep up the good work!!

I'm starting to question whether putting mush in the feeder will work.

When a bit of mush drops on the ground, the don't seem to interested, even when I tap it. I have to pick it up and then they attack.

well just feed it in another type of bowl. I have a couple old pie tins that i use for the mush i make up, and just leave the regular feed in the feeder, i was just thinking you might be able to teach her to eat out of the feeder if you put it in there. you know what is the best way to feed your little ones.. just offering some suggestions to get the littlest one eating out of the feeders..

Yeah, I was thinking about that to teach her to each out of the feeder. Right now I feed it in a little plastic cup. Anyways, looks like putting mush in the feeder is unnecessary now. Just popped in to check on them. I saw...three chicks in the pine shavings shoe box. This little EE was missing.

Leaned in closer, saw her next to the feeder by herself. I froze. Come on, baby. Eat from the feeder like a good little chickie. Come on, Jalapeño. Don't mind me...just eat your crumbles. And she ate from the feeder!

Went back, she was eating again. Have yet to see her drinking from the waterer, but I feel much better now.

Little booger...I'll bet this is what she was thinking:

"Well...if I don't eat and drink while that human is around, she'll pick me up and feed me. And she'll make some nice mush, too!"

HA! Little bugger didn't know I'm home all day on the weekend..SUCKER!!!
