Hi,
I have and this egg incubating for more than 19 days and this chick is very active and peeping and it started to pip yesterday, but only made one little spot and it didn’t go through. Only the top shell got affected. And ever since it hasn’t done anything in the past 15 hours. And I’m wondering what’s going on. Any help?

If the shell is cracked with the external pip, the membrane is usually punctured. The hole can be almost invisible but it is there. This process can take a long, long time, sometimes a couple of days. Be patient, that little chick has a lot of stuff to do right now that does not involve breaking the shell more just yet.
If the zip begins (when the chick starts to really break the shell in a circular motion around the egg) and then stops for a long period of time, then it may be time to assist, but MOST of the time, the chicks manage to hatch out just fine on their own.
This is a very nervous time for first time hatchers, we have all been there. Just take a deep breath and go about your day. You should have a sweet baby chick pretty soon.:fl Keep posting and remember to post pics of the baby!

Thanks that helped a lot! The other baby has hatched and is drying right now.
