A few weeks ago we gave our broody hen some eggs to incubate. For whatever reason, she ended up rejecting this one and we found it half-hatched cold on the floor. We put it with a heating pad to help,it, and it can move and chirp pretty loudly, but there seems to be something wrong with it. I am unsure what is going on and this is my first time helping a bird hatch. Images attached below. I’m unsure if this is normal or if the baby will need to be put down. Please help!

Hi. That doesn’t not look normal- the stringy parts are attached? The abdomen looks lumpy…? While waiting for others with more experience I will say this:
If the mother rejected it but accepted other hatchlings she sensed this one was ill or not survivable.

This is the only one so far that has hatched. There were no other ones for the hen to accept, so I’m unsure if it’s something wrong with this one or if she’s just rejecting her babies

It appears the chick may have acquired an infection of the yolk sac while in the egg, called oomphalitis. It's usually fatal. It is true the broody hen will usually reject such a chick if they don't outright kill it.
