I went to my farm Feed store today and I realize a baby chicken with a injured leg so I asked to see it and I didn’t think it was this bad
Any suggestions of what I should do
.
I take care of injured animals all the time and But not baby chicks so I’m kinda worried
.
Also if anyone can tell me why she’s purple
.
Edit: she’s already doing better but it still hurts her and still looks bad

Yeah, it doesn't look great. . . But as long as the toes are warm and can move, I'm betting it is better than it looks.
I'd keep it VERY clean, like hospital level clean, and slather it with antibiotic ointment a few times a day. Rinse it with sterile saline solution if you can get ahold of any. And keep her isolated, warm, and a high protein diet with some probiotics added in.
She should come around soon!

ETA if you have a relationship with a vet, see if there are any oral antibiotics you could give. That looks infected, and a one off dose of antibiotics might be just the thing for her. If you have a kitchen scale, weigh her once a day too.

Well do thank you so much she’s already feeling so much. Better

How old is the chick? Is she putting weight on the leg? It looks like a leg band has become embedded in it’s leg or a string or hair has been wrapped around it causing swelling and cutting off circulation. But if it is pretty young, it just may have been injured in some way or pecked.

They have sprayed her with BluKote or Wound Kote, a purple spray with gentian violet to disinfect it and keep other chicks from paecking at a red wound.

I would soak the leg in some Epsom salts water daily, and apply some plain Neosporin ointment twice a day. Hopefully the swelling will go down and it will heal. Let us know how she gets along.
