Help, im so confused, we have 10 chicks that are on medicated feed, we were told 18 weeks or until they lay. My question is if I put the 10 new chicks with the older hens if the older chicks eat their medicated feed will it harm them. Thanks
No it wouldn't but if you're feeding the hens layer, it would hurt the chicks. That's why some just feed Flock Raiser, All Flock, All Purpose, etc .... adding a separate dish of Oyster Shells on the side. When you do "add" your chicks to the flock, remember to "See but no touch". Not advisable to just put them together.
I only keep my Chicks on medicated starter till 6 weeks and then switch to Grower/Finisher and never feed layer feed. I provide oyster shell in a separate dish.
No the Medicated feed with Amprolium as the active ingredient will not harm your hens.
But you will have to supply a container of Oyster Shells or Crushed Limestone to supply Calcium...
My Hens got Medicated feed for 10 weeks when I got Chicks last August. No harm done.
I feed Medicated feed for 10 weeks, then when bag is empty I switch to a Non-Medicated Starter-Grower or All-Flock/Flock Raiser Crumble, 18/20% Protein. This is what I feed regularly. GC
