Baby chicks and Light!??? help!

I agree on the 250 watt heat lamp. It is usually too much if the chicks are brooded indoors (or in the summer).

If you still want a red light, you can get a red 85 watt flood light, which works very well.
 
thanks everyone for the info! i am going to search for the lower watage flood light tomorrow! well see how they do.

Jackiedon, I tried using a heat lamp once and it was way, way too hot. I only use a 65wt bulb now and can adjust the height for the temp. It is perfect for the rubbermaid boxes I use from Wal Mart. I am sure it depends on what container you are using for a brooder. We all do it differently.
