I have a pair of californian quail in an avery of 6mx2.5m . She layed 18 eggs and incubated and hatched 12 and they both looked after their chicks . Three weeks on the chicks are just starting to die, have only 5 out of 12 left now . They get plenty of fresh fruit and veggies and chick starter seed ( pellets ) . I have noticed that the chicks are just getting their feathers and are not spending as much time huddle under their mothers feathers . The last chick i took out of the avery was nearly dead and it had no signs of injury. The Avery has natural ground with plenty of large grasses and shrubs .
Any info would be much appreciated.

Midday temps anywhere from 22 deg c to 43 deg c and night time temps around 16 deg c . They do spend a lot of time scratching around feeding and sunning themselves.

Hmm there could be a slew of things going on. Could not be getting the right nutrition- what kind of feed are you giving them?
Could be getting chilled-have you tried giving them an alternate heat source?
Could be illness - are the vaccinated? Have you noticed any poop stuck to their vents ?
Not enough grit to help them digest the veggies and fruit they’re eating -try giving them some chick grit. It’s small enough that you can give it to them at 2 weeks of age
It’s all about guessing !
