Hey all, I'm new to raising baby chicks. I just hatched out 7 Lavender Orpington chicks. They are 5 days old. One chick I thought had spraddle leg. But she holds her legs under her fine, but when she walks she bulldozes forward and can't stay upright very long without shaking. Her neck is normal and feet seem fine. I'm not sure what is wrong. Does this sound like anything anyone has heard of before? Thank you for any help :)

Won't let me send a video. Stated error. She falls forward. Sometimes she can stand upright and walk around but she seems very tired after. She doesn't have any obvious deformities. I wondered if it could be neurological.

:welcome Love Orpingtons, never had a Lavender yet :love

Are these chicks your eggs or shipped? It possibly could be neurological or vitamin deficiency. There's a website; PoultryPedia.com you could take a look at.

It's possible vitamin deficiency; Riboflavin/B12. You can try Nurti Drench (vitamins & electrolytes) or the baby's vitamin PolyVisol without the iron (1 drop 3x day) & foods such as beef liver, spinach, mushrooms, sesame seed, etc ... When I had the problem I mashed some boiled egg yolk into it's feed, along with the PolyVisol (without iron) a drop on its beak 3x day.

There's a sling (Forum Search) you could make to help keep it upright & do some exercising of it's legs to keep it mobile & strengthen while treating. Others will be peeping in with their thoughts, best wishes...

Recommend you also post in the forum - Emergencies / Disease / Illness & Cures

Thank you!! I'll try the PolyVisol and exercises! I really am hoping she makes it. They were eggs from a local provider.

Thank you! She's made some progress with the vitamins. I also put Brewers yeast in the food. Thank you all for your help. I'm super excited to see these little sillys grow up!

Little chickie is not doing so well. She just lays around now and doesn't try to walk, I have to hold her up so she can eat and drink. I think she's dying. The other chicks seem great so I don't think it's a contagious disease. Not sure what to do. Do I let her pass or is there a humane way to Cullman her, I'm not sure I'm up to that...she doesn't seem to be in pain, I'm unsure and don't want to put her down if she could pull out of this. :(
