I had new baby chicks hatch Wednesday, about 30 total. Everyday I seem to lose 1-2. They seem to be in good health, then they turn sick looking and when I go to check them the next day, they are dead. So far I've lost about 6.

3 weeks ago I hatched 63 chicks and only lost 1. Not sure what's going on with this batch. Any ideas?

Thanks!

We have had a similar problem the last couple of days. We decided to breed our chickens this year and so far we have hatched about 16 chicks. One died yesterday and I found another one dead this morning. They all looked fine last night and we haven't noticed any of them acting sick. I was wondering if it was possible that the 7 day old chicks could be killing the younger ones. All of the older chicks seem to be doing just fine. Any suggestions?

Losing chicks and not knowing why is really aweful, my heart goes out to you. I lost a whole batch of hatchery chicks to what I later discovered was a vitamin deficiency. You might try getting some powdered vitamin mix at your local feed store, and put it in their water, maybe it will help.

Make sure you don't see any blood in their poo either. That can be a sign of Cocci, along with droopy wings and a kind of self huddled up appearance, lack of energy. So sorry you have lost some of your chicks.

I am having the same problem. I hatched 22 chicks a week ago and have 5 left.

Our last few hatches have been this way.

I have had way more die within the first few days than are surviving. They look fine, act fine and then one will be laying on its back and the next time I check.....

. Not all will lay on their backs. Only a few between multiple hatches have done that. They just start acting lethargic and then they are gone... I use sav-a-chick for water but still no change. I have been told to use terramycin in their water. No bloody poo, no other signs.

Thanks!

I am having problems with my new chick. They would start of really active then next thing they would chirp loud and all night then they would end up on their back as if someone flipped over.
They would also have their eyes closed as if they were sleeping then whey would end up dead. Can anyone help with some advice, please
I have more eggs that are due to hatch any day now and would like to know what I am dealing with and what I should do.
These are my new Serama Bantams, I hatched and raised the parents and this will be their first chicks.
