Baby Chicks on the way. Quick Question on Bedding

Hey All.... I have a quick question on bedding for my baby chicks who are set to arrive on the 27th of this month

. I have purchase pine shavings but was wondering if I should start them off with paper towels, t-shirts or something else until they know where there food is. I'm a newb at all this so any help would be appreciated...Thanks

I start them off with papertowel sheets on the floor of the brooder. It makes it very easy to keep it clean.

What about shredded paper, I have heard that mentioned a few times?

Meh. I stick with pine shavings.

A warning on pine shavings:
If they splash water on it at all-it goes rancid almost immediately. Chickens dont stink, but WHEW those shavings do!

Newspaper is too slippery, and I wouldn't trust shredded paper, either. I use paper towels. After they have a chance to learn what food is, about 2 weeks old, I switch to fine pine shavings.
