I have a friend who has offered me some baby chicks. She has a beautiful welsummer rooster who mated with her very productive RIR hens. This is the first time this has happened and she and I have no experience. Does anyone know how these chicks will turn out? Ideally the hens would produce lots of very large dark eggs... seems to simple. Would these chicks tend to be more robust with the mixing of 2 breeds? Any input would be really appreciated . Thanks T

They probably would turn out a mix of the two, more like a muted color Welsummer or NH Red feather pattern. That would be my guess.

They would be good egg layers! Lots of brown eggs but you won't get the true terra cotta color but more of a light rust colored egg.

Combining two different breed would make good vigour.
